The playathon was, again this year, an excellent opportunity for the students to show what they've done, and the audiences couldn't have been better. We want to thank VFW Post 4763 for their kindness and for letting us use their great facility. March through mid-April Silent Auction The annual silent auction is again ongoing. Bidding is going well for the restaurants, hotels, jewelry, educational and sporting packages, and the other many miscellaneous items that have been donated by businesses and individuals. WHEN THE VENUE LETS US BACK IN, WE'LL SAFELY HAVE OUR CONCERT. God bless us, every one. We are breaking our annual concert into two parts. The dates are scheduled; the event will be postponed if necessary. The academy is not responsible for inconvenience or loss related to the epidemic. No refunds can be made. ABC News Channel 20 and the State Journal-Register both covered it. Our second outdoor concert was just as good as the one in August. We adhered to strict health guidelines and were properly mesmerized by the students' fine performances and their creative costumes. This year it's a Mask-erade. (How did we ever come up with that name?) The performers will all be in costume and you'll want to be in costume too. At least be a sport and wear a mask—You know our motto: "If it isn't above the nose, it isn't on." The students were on top of things—both adults and children played really well; the weather, after threatening both blazing heat and downpours, was perfect; appropriate precautions were taken for everyone's safety; and the crowd was in the mood for a good time and beautiful music. The addition of a guitar set to our performance added to the Christmas festivity. Saturday, December 1 The Fleming Academy was asked to stay and perform for a private reception after their performance at the Illinois governor's mansion Gov. Rauner's open house. The governor and others enjoyed the performances, after which he spent time with the academy members, with conversation and photos, and provided supper for the group. What a way to end the year! Saturday, November 18 Festival of Trees Our performance at the state fairgrounds included the academy string orchestra, and was well-received again this year. Friday, November 17 Passavant Auxiliary Bazaar in Jacksonville. We were invited to play at their dinner, and our performance received several compliments from our hosts and their guests. Special thanks to the Alexander family for volunteering to feed us all before the show! Saturday, October 28, 5:30 p.m. Costumed Dinner Concert was great fun. Those performers and clever guests who dressed in costume—There were goblins, princesses, Star Wars characters, lions, chickens, witches, and wonderful home-made likenesses—helped make it a really fun time for all. Sunday, May 7, 1:00-5:00 p.m. Fleming Academy Playathon at White Oaks Mall, at the Pop-In Shop. Our students will play for four hours. Our students will be seeking pledges for this event.
